The Taser Pulse, A Compact Personal Protection Device That Packs A Punch

The company Taser International launched a whole new electronic control device (ECD) at the 2016 SHOT Show. The self defense device is made for non-law enforcement use and is known as the Pulse. Unlike the existing C2 weapon intended for civilian use, the Pulse is pistol shaped and is a link amongst the C2 and the X26 frequently utilized by police departments.

Taser designed the Pulse to be more of an intuitive use product since many folks are accustomed to the way a pistol operates. It features a low profile thumb safety and angled sights to make it much more amenable to concealed carry. The replaceable cartridge features a 15 feet range.

Similar to the X26, the unit possesses a built in red laser for aiming. Moreover, the system uses a LED white light for lighting. Based on my knowledge with the X26 in real deployments, I found the laser worked well.

Like the C2, the Pulse is designed to deliver a varying electrical pulse over 30 seconds. The concept is this will enable the user to flee the scene if the probes are properly deployed. This is different from the products purcahased by law enforcement officials in which the pulse time-span is much less: 5 seconds.
